Twisting The Power of Words!

Even respectable right wing outlets like the Drudge Report are falling into the dialogue trap. I am a writer and to me words are very important. We are lumping people into categories that are extremely dangerous, not just to the person but to the stability of the nation. My biggest concern is whether or not we even see it happening.

Somehow we have bastardized the word nationalist. Not only has the word nationalist been turned upside down and is considered something evil. This “evil” designation was used by all forms of media to describe the neo Nazis in Charlottesville.
Nationalist – a person who advocates political independence for a country
Where does this definition describe anything about hating blacks or minorities, having ties with Nazi’s or even concerning oneself with the issues that took place in Charlottesville. The word Nationalist has been hijacked!
Politico, Dailymail, NYT, Huffpost, Fox News and all the major outlets referred to the events in Charlottesville as a White Nationalist Rally. This is what I mean by the power of words. The people with the torches in Charlottesville were idiots, they were bigots; these were not patriotic nationalists. Suddenly, being a nationalist is reason to get you punched or pepper sprayed. Antifa doesn’t need much fuel and it seems we aren’t using all our resources to stop the black masked thugs.
Just a few weeks later in Berkley we witnessed a rally by a group of right wing nationalists. These were not the same people who showed up in Charlottesville. One news out let got the headline right.
Masked anarchists violently rout right-wing demonstrators in Berkeley
~San Francisco Chronicle
I will warn you that its the fate of the left wing in this nation that hangs in the balance. The unchecked violence of groups like Antifa are going to pay dividends for the republicans come election time. The average American doesn’t want to see masked terrorists rushing people on the news.
Right Wing – the conservative or reactionary section of a political party or system.
Still, you must be careful about how they frame your belief system. Right wing is quickly falling into the same boiling pot as the word nationalist. The word right wing is more benign than nationalist. In a sane nation neither of these words would drive people to smash and burn. They are not parallels to this strange Nazi, fascist, white supremacist Chimera that the progressive left is stammering to evoke.
1. a member of the National Socialist German Workers’ Party, which controlled Germany from 1933 to 1945 under Adolf Hitler and advocated totalitarian government, territorial expansion, anti-Semitism, and Aryan supremacy, all these leading directly to World War II and the Holocaust.
2. (often lowercase) a person elsewhere who holds similar views.
There are people in our nation who espouse these views. Its sad but its very true. Their ignorance does not warrant lawlessness. The important thing to look at is how far will these views get. A bunch of pasty white guys with torches will never grip this nation. Their rhetoric is old and tired and its ripe for mockery in a nation as successful and diverse as our own.
Be warned, the rhetoric of the progressive left is exploiting generations of people who are mad at the rich, mad at themselves and looking for purpose. This is a much more dangerous group. This is a diverse group. This is a group that could easily get a foothold in America.
If we use our words, our influence and our airtime to lump together and dehumanize those we disagree with than death will follow. For many it will feel just.
“Seeing white nationalists die may be the only way we fix this nation. They are just racist Nazi’s anyway. Their kids, well, they would have grown up to be racists, too. ”
The quote is fiction. Lets keep it that way.
