PJ Graves of the The Prepper Flyer. He moves his flyers all over the country to different preparedness, survivalist and related expos. The next one upcoming will be may 31st Prescott AZ.
PJ has his finger on the pulse of this circuit and I want to talk to him about all the different expos he’s involved with and where we can go to not simply spend our money but to also meet with like-minded individuals. In the end, I think I brought myself to a revelation as to just what it means to be a prepper
Never have I been so hard pressed to come up with a show description as I am now. When I first sat down to record this episode, it was intended as another general chit chat type of show covering an eclectic collection of thoughts on various topics. What it turned out to be was so much more than I ever expected. The show went from explaining why we shouldn’t concentrate so much on specific possible events and focus simply on losing systems of support to how we define ourselves as survivalists or preppers and why using a word and it’s dictionary definition is simply not possible.
During this week’s show, I’ll also talk about “American Blackout”, which was supposed to be an episode all to itself, but I felt that it could be condensed into another thought process, so long as the biggest lesson to be learned was brought to the forefront. Also, I bring into the conversation the idea of current events as a prepper/survivalist raison d’etre, and how this is really a matter for all people to be concerned with, not as an issue for us alone against the sheeple.
In the end, I think I brought myself to a revelation as to just what it means to be a prepper, or a survivalist, or a whatever you want to call yourself and the voyage throughout the show is neither straight, nor centered on any one specific topic. I hope that you seriously listen to all the individual topics that I started out with and see just how it all rolled out into something I certainly never expected it to.

Homesteading in essence is built on self-reliance creating and building our stead into a home. There are many who classify themselves as Homesteaders, Preppers, Survivalist and even Thrivalist (which I like to call myself) but today let’s not get hung up on debating the definition that each perceives as true for the title, after all what difference does it make, it’s important only to the person claiming the title and you know who you are and what you believe, it doesn’t matter that someone else does, that is the beauty and grace of self-reliant/sufficient living , no one else’s opinion matters in the grand scheme.
Where is your homestead right now? The wilds of the mountains, perhaps within the urban sprawl or a quiet little subdivision somewhere. Where you live right now is in fact your homestead, it is your stead the place you, stand your ground, surround you and yours with protection and love, your proverbial castle. The stead (n. 1. The physical structure within which one lives, such as a house or apartment. 3. A dwelling place together with the family or social unit that occupies it; a household. 4. a. An environment offering security and happiness. b. A valued place regarded as a refuge or place of origin) so in fact your “homestead”. At this very moment seek to know where you are, right now. Begin to make where you are as self-sufficient and reliant as possible. First Lieutenant Harry Golden served his country for 12 years. First deployed for nine months in Support of Operation Desert Storm. Later he enlisted in the Army National Guard and attended Officer Candidate School. He was deployed for 20 consecutive months in Support of Operation Iraqi Freedom 3-4 & 5-6. During a six month period, while attached to the 2nd Marine Division, Golden’s 21 Troopers of Blackjack Third Platoon 1/104 CAV, 28th ID, earned one Silver Star, three Bronze Stars with Valor, four Bronze Stars and five Purple Hearts for direct combat against al Queda in al Anbar Province, Ramadi, Iraq. Now retired, he lives in the South-West and tends to his flock of chickens.

It’s a Miracle! It’s a Miracle! Quietly and without fanfare last Friday slipped away and the world rocked on. Not such a miracle really but a testament to the lives we live and the incredible planet we inhabit. While the following things are true; #1 the end of the year is drawing near; #2 we totally dodged the bullet on Friday the 21st, and #3 my prediction was upheld, we are all still here, BUT what now? What does it all mean for the Prepper World? Do we stop, throw our hands up and collectively sigh….”geez not another Y2K?” I’ve watched the media with considerable mirth and some concern as they try to decipher the intent of Preppers and to see if in fact we are just a bunch of paranoid neurotics or if by chance maybe just maybe, in one or two of their minds, that we are on to something big, very big, monumental even! OBVIOUSLY, we are not paranoid neurotics. None of us threw our hands up berating ourselves that WE were duped into another Y2K scenario and are busily thinking about trying to unload any surplus we have. Any Prepper worth his/her salt knows that the world doesn’t have to physically end for a disaster to befall any of us at any time. That living a life prepared is much more.
The fact is, if the media took a moment to really take an honest look, they would see what we KNOW, and that my Ultimate’s is the benefits of a Prepper life style are visible each and every day in the lives we lead.
