On this episode we are talking about off grid cooling. The ideal solution is to have enough solar or wind power that you can run a window unit or potable AC unit. evaporation cooling. Believe it or not but the Egyptians and roman had forms of air-conditioning where they both would hand wet sheets in a doorway in order to make use of the effect of evaporative cooling. The Romans went a step further and had cool water circulating through their walls in order to cool the homes.
Our show will include how to use DC powered fans in order to cool yourself and a room and how a little water can go a long way. We will be discussing some architectural ideas that you can use if you are building new or remodeling your home. Ideas like wind towers, using prevailing winds, living in rooms that face certain directions in order to minimize sun exposure, whole house shading, and the chimney effect on a building or home. Finally we will wrap up with the swamp. A swamp cooler or evaporative cooler that is. We will learn how it got its name, why it works and doesn’t. Where it is most helpful and I will detail the process I used to build a small portable unit that runs entirely off 12 DC.
