Essential Oils For Preparedness
Host: Cat Ellis “Herbal Prepper Live“
This episode of Herbal Prepper Live is about Essential Oils for Preparedness. This show builds upon last week’s episode where we discussed specific oils to include in an essential oil first aid kit. This week, we are talking about how to use them, where do I source my own essential oil, and where to go for good information on Aromatherapy. If you’re interested in incorporating essential oils into your preparedness plan, then you’re going to want to listen to this show.
Some of the topics to be covered are:
•Inhalation and diffusers
•Ingestion, yay or nay?
•Blending essential oils
•How to store your oils
•How to source quality oils.
•Plus, terms of the trade, like “neat”, “volatile”, and the truth behind what “therapeutic grade” means.
Essential oils are highly concentrated, plant-based medicine with many therapeutic benefits. They are not true oils, in the sense that they are not fats or lipids. Essential oils can be used for headache relief, calming anxiety, clearing a congested respiratory system, and alleviating nausea. However, there are also many that should be avoided by pregnant women and young children. We will also discuss carrier oils, what’s available now, and what options there may be for carrier oils in a post-collapse situation.
And speaking of a post-collapse situation, one of the drawbacks of essential oils is that when shipping stops, how do you resupply? For the overwhelming majority of oils, you will not be able to reproduce them on your own. The process requires an understanding of and equipment for steam distillation, careful attention to detail, and most importantly, an enormous amount of plant material. However, there are a few plants with very high amounts of the volatile, essential oils
While old favorites of the crunchy/natural living crowd, essential oils are currently experiencing a surge in popularity among preppers, as well as s0-called “mom bloggers”. This has produced a mixed bag of online sources, some with fabulous advice, and others with fabulously horrible advice, on using essential oils. It’s my aim to clear up the confusion, and provide the information you need to make intelligent choices on how and when to include essential oils for preparedness.
