Breaker 1-9 for a copy! on The Prepared Canadian

cb radioCanada 125This week on The Prepared Canadian, we take a look back to the times of Smokey and the Bandit. Yup, you guessed it…CB radios. We look at the benefits as well as the pitfalls of using CB’s as a source of communications as well as how to get set up. Also, why and how to build your own base station antenna for your home for around $20.00.
Also, the Canadian Hurricane Center has issued its outlook for the 2013 season. How many storms are predicted and how does this compare to seasons past? Finally, I’ll give you my views on the whole concealed carry debate for Canadians. Should we, could we and would it do any good if we did? These and more opinions for this week’s episode.

Hurricane season is on the horizon! Are you prepared?

Hurricane imagesFor The Prepared Canadian hurricane season is on the horizon!  Every year, Canada experiences the effects of several storms that many of us consider hurricanes.  In fact, there are many terms used to describe these storms such as tropical cyclones, tropical storms, and extra tropical storms.  This week, we will take a look at these different terms and what exactly they mean, as well as why extra tropical storms, sometimes referred to as “the remnants of” are still a danger to Canadians.

As well, we will go over the basic preps that you should always have on hand to be prepared for such storms, as well as some things you can do to be extra prepared when one is approaching.  Of course, we will also look at it from the point of view of the lack of support systems that these storms can cause.

Is that a train you hear? Well, unless you live beside a railway line, it just may be a tornado!

tornado 2One might think that preparing for tornadoes in Canada would be pretty low on the priority list.  After all, isn’t tornado alley in the US?  The number of tornadoes in Canada as well as the breadth of the danger zone may surprise you.  On this Episode of The Prepared Canadian I’ll give you a few stats as to how many tornadoes we canuks can expect, look at some recent notable tornadoes, explain the fujita scale and what kinds of damages each tornado category can dish out.  We will also look at what you can do to prepare for a tornado, even though there is little to no warning as well as what to do and what not to do during a tornado.

Are the skies darker than usual?  Is there a funny color to the clouds?  Do they seem to be moving in a circular pattern?  Learn the warning signs of a tornado and what you as a prepper can be doing to get ready for this year’s season, which by the way, starts next month!
