Justin Vititoe from History Channels Alone
Josh “7P’s of Survival”
This week we will have Justin Vititoe from History Channels Alone on the show and we will be talking about his life’s journey leading up to his choice to take part in ALONE. Once we learn a little about his background we will dig into what he decided to take on the show, why he made those decisions and why he thought they would be most effective.
Justin Vititoe grew up in a small Kentucky town and joined the National Guard when he was 17 years old. When he turned 20, he transferred into active duty, where he became an Infantryman in the U.S. Army and served three tours in Iraq and one in Afghanistan. Justin Vititoe is a proficient marksman, having served two combat tours as a sniper in the 101st Airborne Division and instructed at the U.S. Army Sniper School and Long Range Marksman course. While serving in the Army, he also attended several survival and tracking courses, which fueled his passion for wilderness survival. He has since instructed military, law enforcement, and civilians around the world in sniper marksmanship, camouflage, tracking, small unit tactics, and numerous other survival techniques. After leaving the military in 2014, he founded Hike 2 Survive, a program that takes veterans on hiking and camping trips in order to help them transition into civilian life and deal with the mental and emotional issues they face. For Justin, his time on Alone will be an opportunity to combine his mental strengths and survival skills to push himself past his limits.
The thirteen episode series places ten hardcore survivalists alone on northern Vancouver Island, British Columbia. The contestants have one mission: to stay alive. There are no camera crews, no teams, and no gimmicks. At stake is a $500,000 cash prize awarded to the person who can last the longest. Equipped only with limited gear, their wilderness experience, and cameras to self-document their journeys, these brave men and women are completely separated from one another in harsh, unforgiving terrain. To survive, they must find food and water, build shelters and fend off predators. They will face extreme isolation, psychological distress, and treacherous environmental conditions as they descend into the unknown. Determined to thrive in any environment, many of the men and women on the second season display incredible ingenuity by building elaborate creations such as a functioning stove, gravity-fed plumbing system, primitive weapons, boats, and much more.
