TincturesJoin me this Mother’s Day, 5/8/16, as I demystify the process of how to make herbal tinctures. Tincture-making is one of the most important herbal skills you need to have under your belt. Herbal tinctures, also called herbal extracts, provide a thorough extraction of the therapeutic properties of plants. They preserve the potency of herbal medicine for multiple years, and Continue reading How to Make Herbal Tinctures!

Herbal First Aid Kits Pt2 horsetail-close-up-PDWe are going to pick up exactly where we left off last week talking about herbal first aid, first aid kits, and how to build such a kit. I had just started discussing tinctures, so we will recap the single tinctures I like to have on hand, and then get into the various tincture blends that I put together for the latest incarnation of my herbal first aid kit. KISS First Aid- Adding on to the basic first aid kit
Host: Cat Ellis “Herbal Prepper Live

KISS Herbal Prepper Live150In the previous episode of Herbal Prepper Live, we looked at how to build an herbal first aid kit that would address a wide range of issues, the the least amount of items. This kit employed the KISS design principal (Keep It Simple, Stupid), to make this a highly accessible kit to put together, even for a newbie herbalism. This week, we’re going to build upon that foundation with some add-on formulas for common conditions.

In the original KISS herbal first aid kit we discussed, there were ten components. In this episode, we improve this kit by adding in eight new elements, as well as splitting one of the original elements into two. The new formulas include tinctures and salves for the following circumstances: Continue reading KISS First Aid- Basic first aid kit pt 2

The Basics of Making Herbal Formulas

The Basics of Making Herbal Formulas
Host: Cat Ellis “The Herbal Prepper Live

Basics DIYFireCiderWMHerbal remedies are a severely underutilized resource by preppers. Plant-based remedies provide an easy, affordable, and renewable alternative for post-collapse medicines. Herbs, mushrooms, trees, and other natural items, like honey, provide a wealth of traditional remedies that you can make and grow at home with minimal and easy-to-obtain equipment.

Basics 20140227_162514Herbs also have a sort of stealth function built into them that many preppers can appreciate. You can stock up on lots of your own, custom-tailored herbal preparations and formulas without drawing the same kind of attention and compromising questions you might garner if you tried to stock up on pharmaceuticals. And, due to the fact that the average person is largely clueless when it comes to plant identification outside of a tomato and a cucumber, your Survival Herb Garden will not draw the kind of attention as, for example, your vegetable garden. Most will think your herbs are either a pile of weeds or that your medicinal flowers are purely ornamental. Continue reading The Basics of Making Herbal Formulas
