Building and Types The Latrine Part 2

In this episode of Reality Check, we are continuing with part 2 of building and using a latrine. Our number 1 focus is still on number 2. Everyone knows it by the same name whether latrine, loo, outhouse, head, water closet, privy, potty, or toilet. It is something that we are all going to have to do once it hits the fan. Dealing with human waste is a very touchy subject, but one we all will have to deal with. Ignoring proper bathroom sanitation can lead to disease, sickness, and death. Sanitation and Personal CleanlinessThis week on Reality Check we are continuing where we left off last week in discussing sanitation and what to do when nature calls. Last week EK covered a lot of topics on what to do when you are grid down and Mother Nature comes knocking. EK covered the importance of having clean water to rinse off and bath even though it was without soap. In the first show, EK covered the fact that when the grid goes down things will eventually stop working. Trash will pile up along with human waste and you as the prepper of your household will have to deal with it and how to dispose of things. EK covered the hair, head, underarms, and upper body. Sanitation Grid Down and Knee Deep in...For the next few weeks on Reality Check, EK is back in the studio discussing sanitation. We may not like it but when the grid goes down mother nature is going to come knocking. You may not think it is that important or requires much thought. You think, what is there to it but digging a hole for a latrine and making sure you wash your hands. So, what if we get a little dirty. I mean people have survived for centuries without soap, right? This show will have some ideas on how to reduce the amount of noise and sound you give off as well as some ways you can use sound to your advantage. You Need More OPSEC Discipline Part 3In this week’s show, we are continuing our series on Sight, Smell, and Sound OPSEC discipline. Last week’s show was about minimizing or reducing the light that you give off as well as your appearance to others. If you missed that show, we covered no smoking or campfires, using a Dakota Hole or rocket stove, and how to conceal flashlights by using lenses or cat-eyeing them. Then, we touched on reflective surfaces and how to conceal the lights inside your house. Finally, we talked about your appearance and how you need to look thin and gaunt as well as making your home look unappealing. Read more “You Need More OPSEC Discipline Part 3”

More Discipline Part 2 – Sight & AppearanceYou need more discipline and this week we are continuing with Part 2 of our series. Last week was smell and how to exercise more OPSEC on smoke, fire, cooking, and body odor. This week we begin covering sight and appearance. Specifically, we will be covering light and sight discipline. Meaning keeping light signatures low so as not to give away your position or capabilities in the fact that you have power or supplies for lighting. Another topic we are going to cover is how others might see you. Things like keeping your yard clean of trash in order to avoid attention or by putting certain trash out to make it looked like your house has already been looted. We will also cover ideas about how you and your family Read more “More Discipline Part 2 – Sight & Appearance!”

You Need More Discipline Part 1 – SmellWell, it has finally happened. The thing we have all been preparing for has finally occurred and we all got to say a collective ‘I told you so.’ The grid has gone down, Sugar has hit the fan, and society as we know it as has begun to unravel. As a prepper, you are relatively unaffected though because you took the time to stockpile and store up supplies, you planted a garden, your solar panels are providing power and light to your home, and you don’t mind the smell of cooking outside on the grill or with a campfire as the kids are thinking of this as an adventure. Outside your home, however, things are not good. Read more “You Need More Discipline Part 1 – Smell”

I’ll talk about how the show got started, what motivated me to do it, where the name came from and the fact that we wanted to cover topics that make people think about hard subjects. Sepsis – Blood Poisoning Fast Lane to DeathWhat do you think of when you hear the words Sepsis, Septicemia, or better known as blood poisoning?

Does the elderly come to mind? Perhaps you think of a grandparent that passed away after contracting it while in the hospital for another ailment. Or perhaps it was someone older who got it after an accident while in the intensive care unit. It could have been an adult relative that had diabetes who cut their foot or had their skin break down. Or even a neighbor that had cancer that suddenly died from an injury while on chemo but you assumed it was because they had cancer. Perhaps you are not even aware of sepsis and the danger it presents to your life or the life of someone you know. Read more “Sepsis – Blood Poisoning Fast Lane to Death!”

The tomato man and gardeningThis week we have a real treat. This Friday I have Craig LeHoullier The Tomato Man on as my guest. You may have heard of him as the North Carolina Tomatoman. Some know him as the fellow who named the Cherokee Purple in 1990. To others, he is the author of the books Epic Tomatoes or Growing Vegetables in Straw Bales, the co-host of Tomatopalooza, a co-leader of the Dwarf Tomato Breeding Project, or just the odd person with a garden where the driveway used to be. He is the tomato nut with a website, a blog, a newsletter (on occasion), and a huge tomato and pepper and eggplant collection. Read more “The tomato man and gardening!”
