For much of the country, it’s the END of gardening and canning season. And many of us are ready for a break from the endless gardening, (watering!) harvesting, and preserving we’ve been doing these last few months. But it’s never too early to start thinking about, and planning next year’s harvest. I have a few ideas to share with you on how to better face the future challenges coming our way in regards to continuing to produce quality, healthy nutritionally sound food for our families. We are all going to have to become more efficient with, and better stewards of, our resources as the perfect storm of weather, rising food prices, and economic “stresses” loom ahead.
So join me, Renée (aka Michigansnowpony) and my co-host Katzkradul this Thursday night, October 25th on the “Homestead Honey Hour” as we talk about not only streamlining our gardens for optimal results and nutrition, but also introduce to you the idea of “rotational canning” (and dehydrating) to help fill your pantry without the stress of trying to get it ALL done every year.
Whether you garden in the ‘burbs, on a country homestead, or get your produce from the local farmers’ markets to can and preserve, tune in and together, we can help make next season even more “fruitful”!

One of Katzcradul’s subscribers wrote this week to say, that learning that she could make brown sugar by combining regular granulated sugar with a bit of molasses, completely changed the way she thought about food storage. She commented that she now understands that if she thinks smarter, she doesn’t have to store as many different food items. She suggested the Honeys have a show entitled “Smarter Storage”. Since The Honeys believe it’s important to formulate shows based on what our subscribers and listeners want, Katzcradul is devoting the upcoming show to the discussion of “Smarter Storage”, how to get the most: for your food storage dollar, from the places where you store your food, and from your time, efforts, and abilities. Join us as we learn from each other, sharing our best ideas for managing our food storage. Listen to this wonderful show in player below
BexarPrepper hosted The Homestead Honey Hour with her guest MistyShooter223. MistyShooter shared what she has learned living the homesteading life, that most of us are trying to achieve. She’s a wife of 16 years, mother of four and a heck of a person. Her personal philosophy is that she has never met a person who wasn’t this or that and looks for the best in everyone she meets. BexarPrepper say’s “she’s my favorite Homesteader/Prepper and the knowledge she shares with the community has made a difference in many people lives”. A great show with some good prepping ideas and great questions answered from callers as well as those in the chat room. Listen to this episode in player below.
Youtuber MichiganSnowPony is homesteader extraordinaire. Her name is Renee and if the topic is farm animals, she has raised them. If it’s in the kitchen, dehydrating, canning, preserving or preparing, she’s been there and done that. With thousands of fans on YouTube she has been hit with about any question you might imagine and if she has not had the answer she has found it. She was GoatHollow’s guest this Wednesday on Prepping with GoaHollow radio and gave us a great show with a lot of information.
