While it is important to eat all things in moderation, the truth of the matter is we have once again been duped into believing something that is simply not true. The Case of Butter vs. Margarine

The Case of Butter vs. Margarine
Host: Noreen “The Homestead Honey Hour”

Butter butter-vs-margarine-quoteOn the next installment of the Homestead Honey Hour, Join Noreen as she presents the case of Butter Vs. Margarine. For hundreds of years, humans consumed butter fat, lard and natural forms of fat and oil from animal sources. It was not until the margarine was introduced into the food system that we were told that the latter was bad for us and caused hardening of the arteries and heart disease. Well, what you have been told and what is true are very different stories. Continue reading The Case of Butter vs. Margarine

Gluten Intolerance – GMO Connection

The Gluten Intolerance – GMO Connection
Host: Noreen “The Homestead Honey Hour”

Gluten intolerance_au_gluten_21Did you ever stop to wonder why it seems that so many people are diagnosed with gluten intolerance? I cannot think of a time in recent history when so many people seem to have either been formally diagnosed or self diagnosed as being “Gluten Intolerant”. It may be that we see gluten free products all over the marketplace. It may be that many of the labels you see boast that the contents are “gluten free”. But did you ever wonder why this seems to be so rampant? Continue reading Gluten Intolerance – GMO Connection

Gun Control, A Woman’s Perspective!

Gun Control, A Woman’s Perspective!
Host: Noreen “Homestead Honey Hour” on Best of Prepper Broadcasting

Gun ControlWe are all concerned about being prepared for whatever we may face. We are all concerned about the safely of our homes, families and ourselves, should the situation present itself. We want to be able to defend ourselves. We talk about a lot of situations until we are blue in the face. As a nation, we are now faced with the likelihood of having some of our constitutional rights, once again, being limited. Some feel that soon, they will be taken from us altogether.

Gun ControlWhat if you were faced with a situation in which your very existence was threatened? What if you could not defend yourself? What if, as a result of that predicament, you were faced with a future that was much different than you had planned? How would the end result of that situation effect the way you thought about being able to defend yourself and your family? Continue reading Gun Control, A Woman’s Perspective!

WHERE HAVE ALL THE PREPPERS GONE?

WHERE HAVE ALL THE PREPPERS GONE?
Host: Katzcradul “The Homestead Honey Hour

PREPPERSRemember the days when you’d hear the term ‘Prepper’ as often as you heard ‘gluten Intolerance’? Remember the days when Preppers, although a bit reluctant to reveal their passion for self-reliance, would do so with a sense of enthusiasm and pride? What happened to those days, and more importantly, where have all the preppers gone?

PREPPERSJoin Katzcradul as she discusses the apparent rise and fall of the Prepper phenomenon. She thinks there’s some important questions we should be asking ourselves. Do we now believe that our national power grid is in better shape than it was two years ago? Do we now believe that reliance on government agencies to take care of us in times of disaster is a good plan? Do we think that the food in supermarkets is safer to eat and a dependable source for our dinner table? Do we think public schools under Common Core are now paragons of education? Do we believe that our legislators are competent and work tirelessly to ensure our freedoms are maintained? Maybe you’re one who feels your world is now a safer place with scanners at airports, cameras on every street corner, surveillance through all our electronic devices, and drones patrolling overhead. No? Continue reading WHERE HAVE ALL THE PREPPERS GONE?

State of Michigan vs “Bakers Green Acres”

State of  Michigan vs “Bakers Green Acres”
Host: Renee “The Homestead Honey Hour”

State of Michigan vs "Bakers Green Acres"Back in March, I interviewed Mark Baker of Baker’s Green Acres here on the Homestead Honey Hour. Mark is a retired air force veteran, now sustainably farming in northern Michigan State along with his wife and 8 children. If you missed that show, Mark and his family were and still are involved in a legal briefs for their right to farm, specifically to continue their pasture-raised hog operation. Using an incredibly ambiguously-written Invasive Species Order or ISO, (which, by description basically outlaws ANY pig), the Michigan DNR went after Mark’s main livestock: His heritage breed Mangalista hogs. Christmas From The Heart!

Christmas From The Heart!
Host: Noreen “The Homestead Honey Hour

ChristmasChristmasChristmas is coming.
The goose is getting fat.
Please put a penny in the old man’s hat.
If you haven’t got a penny, a ha-penny will do.
If you haven’t got a penny, well then God bless you.
God Bless You!

That is how the old English carol goes.  Can you hear it in your head now?  The time has come, the season is upon us and consumerism abounds!  Along with all the carols and the good wishes come an abundance of advertisements, holiday sales and the old question of “What do you want for Christmas?”.

Christmas
The reality here is that there may be many among us who are going to feel a real pinch this year, financially or otherwise.  Let’s face it, the economy isn’t all rainbows and unicorns, now is it?  The act of giving is what we generally associate with the Christmas season, but I think that more often than not the desire to receive may out weigh the desire to give in some cases.  Some people are just not going to be in a position to give much of anything.  Or that may be what they think.  The truth of the matter is, we need to get away from all the gadgets and gizmos and move back to a more simple trend of giving.
