Bartering history and present day!
James Walton “I Am Liberty”
The history of bartering dates all the way back to 6000 BC. Introduced by Mesopotamia tribes, bartering was adopted by Phoenicians. Phoenicians bartered goods to those located in various other cities across oceans. Babylonian’s also developed an improved bartering system. Goods were exchanged for food, tea, weapons, and spices. At times, human skulls were used as well. Salt was another popular item exchanged. Salt was so valuable that Roman soldiers’ salaries were paid with it. In the Middle Ages, Europeans traveled around the globe to barter crafts and furs in exchange for silks and perfumes. Colonial Americans exchanged musket balls, deer skins, and wheat. When money was invented, bartering did not end, it became more organized.
Due to lack of money, bartering became popular in the 1930s during the Great Depression. It was used to obtain food and various other services. It was done through groups or between people who acted similar to banks. If any items were sold, the owner would receive credit and the buyer’s account would be debited. – See more at: https://www.mint.com/barter-system-history-the-past-and-present#sthash.3Ww6pov4.dpuf
Tonight I want to talk about taking advantage of the barter economy that is alive and well out there. Dare I say it could even be growing. We are in the most entrepreneurial time in history. Everyone is peddling something or another. Its harder than ever to make the right decisions about advertising and you know what sometimes I say “Screw it” and ask a company to swing a product my way for a shout on I AM Liberty.
When I say everyone is peddling something that doesn’t mean everyone is a millionaire. That means people have products and their products need exposure. If you get creative you can take advantage of this barter economy.
I want to talk about bartering past and present as well as determining value in the things you are trying to barter. Don’t miss this one and share it with your friends.
