How to Make Herbal Medicines!
Host: Cat Ellis “Herbal Prepper Live”
Knowing how to make herbal medicines will be an important, life-saving, and barter-worthy skill post-disaster. Being able to make teas, tinctures, salves, steams, lotions, and powders can turn a garden, field, or garden into your own personal pharmacy when there is no pharmacy. But, only if you know how to make them.
Thankfully, making herbal medicines is a lot simpler than making pharmaceuticals. While the learning of herbal medicine never really ends, the actual skills of making tea, syrups, poultices, etc, can be learned quickly.
In this episode, I will explain how to make a few of the most common forms of remedies: teas, tinctures, aceta (herbal vinegar), poultices, and infused honey. These are skills that are easy to get started with, and use ingredients that will be available even after an economic collapse, EMP or other major crisis.
The time to learn these skills is now while there is still the opportunity to gain proficiency, experiment, and find what works for your needs. While it may be simple to steep echinacea flowers in alcohol and St. John’s wort in oil, it may take a few attempts to get them the strength that you prefer. The basics of making a salve or ointment are not complicated, but there are so many ways to personalize them.
But, if you wait until things are in chaos, you will likely end up wasting precious resources on formulas that are not at effective as they could be. Tune in to this episode to learn how to get started on the right foot.
