Preparedness Survival-Evasion-Resistance-and-Escape-1Today’s show is a culmination of several topics that are in response to several emails about my previous podcasts and articles. All of these email subjects can be tied together, however, under the topic of “Preparedness Skills.” I start this podcast by discussing some of the different methods that we learn important skills – and by this I am even referring to simple skills and knowledge such as what kinds of foods to can, dry canning vs. Continue reading Preparedness Skills!

Host Sam Coffman “The Herbal Medic

Survival Training for the Prepper! creek-gigging-river-31What does wilderness or urban survival training mean for the prepper? Join Sam Coffman as he explores the basic survival concepts that he feels any prepper must know. Rather than depending on expensive gadgetry, what skills will get you through a rough situation with minimal equipment no matter where you find yourself? Is that possible? Sam feels that it is, and that the key lies in defining and understanding basic principles while also teaching yourself some basic skills and adaptability, rather than packing every kind of new survival Continue reading Survival Training for the Prepper!

Aquaponics vs Wicking beds

Aquaponics vs Wicking beds
Host: Sam Coffman “The Herbal Medic

Aquaponics 1341613560Join Sam Coffman in this podcast as he talks about the differences between growing your own food (and medicine) using aquaponics systems vs. growing it in the dirt in a wicking bed setup.  Many people have or want to jump on the aquaponics bandwagon.  Aquaponics can be very useful in a number of ways and is a great way to emulate a couple of main components of a full ecosystem garden. Enterovirus 68 and Herbal Medicine

Enterovirus 68 and Herbal Medicine
Host: Sam Coffman “The Herbal Medic

Enterovirus 68A lot of questions have been raised recently about the Enterovirus 68 (aka EVD68, Enterovirus D68).  This is a respiratory virus that has been moving quickly through the USA and having very serious effects.  Like most respiratory viruses, it is very easily and quickly spread and has been affecting especially children with very serious symptoms.  As is the case with most pathogenic viruses of an acute nature like this (cold, flu, etc.) there is really no treatment protocol in orthodox medicine.  There is no anti-viral or vaccine. Self Defense Training, The Realities!

Self Defense Training, The Realities!
Host: Sam Coffman “The Herbal Medic

Self Defense martial_arts_workout_dWe all hope for the best and prepare for the worst. When it comes to self defense most preppers/survivalists would rely on their stockpile of weapons and ammunition. What if for one moment your weapon was not at your side and the unexpected happens? Would you have the ability to defend yourself? Would you know what to say or do when confronted by would-be assailants or would you cower down hoping for the best but not prepared the the worst that could now happen? Snake Bites, Infections and Herbal Medicine!

Snake Bites, Infections and Herbal Medicine
Host: Sam Coffman “The Human Path”

Snake BitesAs we have talked about before, the three biggest issues after a disaster are very likely going to be food, water and medicine. Add to this the fact that most post-disaster environments are laden with potential health threats: Rubble, obstacles and hazards, open sewage and bacteria-laden water, disturbed wildlife looking for new homes, increased rodent population and more. A lack of medical services really starts to hit home when talking about severe, acute environmental or medical injuries. Two good examples of this kind of severe, post-disaster medical situation are infection and venomous snake bites in North America (e.g. Rattlesnake, Copperhead, Coral Snake, Cottonmouth). Ebola, The Virus!

Ebola,  The  Virus
Host: Sam Coffman “The Human Path

self_06I have had so many emails asking me about herbal possibilities in dealing with Ebola virus, that I am going to come out of what was meant to be a month-long hiatus (taken due to being so busy) and talk about Ebola. This is obviously uncharted territory. Is it possible to work with plant medicine to help someone beat the 60% or 90% mortality rate that different strains of this virus carry with them? That’s a very high mortality rate and means that at least 1 out of every 2 people contacting this virus will probably die. Continue reading Ebola, The Virus!

Urban Survival (Bugging In)

Urban Survival (Bugging In) Revisited
Sam Coffman

Urban Survival TeachingMuch of the hype around preparedness and urban survival focuses on the concept of the “bug-out” bag and its various incarnations; and why not?  It’s a much simpler concept to wrap one’s head around than all the preparation involved in setting up your home as the spot you intend to stay in a post-disaster or even post-SHTF scenario. We teach bug-out scenarios, caches, escape and evasion and much more related to bugging out at my survival school – The Human Path – and it is important to know the full range of skills and equipment and realities around every aspect of bugging out. Continue reading Urban Survival (Bugging In)
