This Friday evening on Foraging For Life we will be discussing the different uses for certain trees as a means to sustain ones’ self along with some tricks one can do to obtain some tasty treats from those trees. We will also look into some of the natural medicinal attributes for a few of the species and other useful things that the giants of the forest have to offer by means of simple survival tips. You don’t have to be a beaver to appreciate the sustainability that the trees have to offer as they provide much more than the common applications of building and heating our homes. This Friday evening on “Foraging For Life” we are going to go over some of the very tasty dishes you can make with your foraged edibles. I will go through what I did to process those items and then a step by step with recipes on different dishes you can make with them as well as how to turn them into seasonings. A few of the ingredients we’ll be using include venison, lobster mushrooms, huckleberries and morels. I’d love to hear from you as to what you; the listener, would like to have featured in future shows as well. I’m hoping to put some videos together for this, so cross your fingers and wish me luck.
Foraging for balance in today’s world. Typically on my foraging for life shows I speak about the wild edibles and herbs. This week on Foraging For Life I will be taking a different approach to things and welcome the audience to join me in a discussion concerning balance. The world we grew up in as children has changed greatly. With all that the government is doing in attempt to control anything and everything we do, eat or possess, along with all the encroachments on our rights and privacy, I find myself foraging for the “food” that my being requires so that I may remain a calm, rational and productive individual.
I’d like to hear from you, the listeners, as to what you do to keep the fearfulness at bay in these times, where do you find whatever it is that helps you maintain your balance so as not to be frozen in stagnation? Do you attend church, or maybe gatherings with like minded people? Do you just shut everything down for a time so as to allow your mind to process its overloaded stockpile of information before acquiring more? This episode of “Foraging For Life” we will look a few more resources nature has to offer in the way of medicinal plants and herbs. There are several plants and herbs that are in natures medicine cabinet that can help us when no other resources are available. We will talk about a few of these and the necessary procedures required to put them to use. Some of these plant require little or no preparation at all and can be as good or better for you than what comes off the shelf at your local pharmacy. For those that are hungry I’m sure we will have a few nutritious and filling ideas that may just wet your appetite.
Some years ago, I spotted a bumper sticker that read “If you’re not OUTRAGED, you’re not paying ATTENTION”. It was of course a statement directed towards the mechanisms of politics. It has stuck within my mind, and I believe opened my eyes a bit wider to hidden agendas I perceive to be present within that realm.
In reading an article and following blog comments about the Connecticut shootings it became apparent that the “blame game” and “good vs. evil” are alive and well. Some say evil does not exist, just mental illness. I say if you’re going to do away with “evil” then you would have to do away with “good” as well. They represent the opposite sides of the same coin. Hot/cold, day/night, wet/dry, horizontal/vertical, thin/thick, life/death….you get my meaning. Without one the other ceases to exist. Our own individual ability to decipher the difference between the two extremes based on scripting, life experience, and perception allows each and every one of us a scale in which the gray matter falls and where we attempt “balance”.
