Going It Alone Won’t Work!

Going It Alone Won’t Work!
Host: Jack Spirko “The Survival Podcast”

Alone lone-wolfMany preppers seem to think telling anyone, anything about your views on preparedness is a huge mistake. They point out it might make you a target of everyone who isn’t prepared when doomsday comes.

Others seem to embody the very reasons others are so tight lipped about their preps. These are the self absorbed jackasses that state nonsense like, “My AR15 and 2,000 round are all the survival kit I will ever need”. Such people live in a world of Hollywood B movies and fan fiction novels. In the real world such tactics are seldom effective for a variety of reasons. Continue reading Going It Alone Won’t Work!

Raising Your Own Chickens (part 2)

Raising Your Own Chickens (part 2)
Host: Bobby Preparing to Provide!

Raising Your OwnDuring the last show of “Preparing to Provide“, we had a great discussion with Paul Wheaton and several callers. A lot was discussed, with quite a bit of focus on long term objectives. Things like rotating paddocks and free ranging would seem to be the end goal for a truly self-sufficient method of raising chickens. However, not everyone has the necessary space for these methods. And for a beginner, sometimes you have to crawl before you walk. A lot of questions remain. Things like… Where to buy chicks? Is it better to start with pullets? How many chickens can you have per coop? What feed is best at what stage? How to deal with extreme heat and cold? With that in mind, we’re going to go back and fill in a lot of the blanks. Continue reading Raising Your Own Chickens (part 2)

Chickens, raising your own!

Chickens, raising your own!
Host: MHPGardener “Best of Prepper Broadcasting

ChickensWith the cost of eggs and chicken in the stores, and the uncertainty of exactly where they came from or what they have been fed, I’d like to start raising my own chickens. But unlike gardening, I know very little about chickens. I know barbecue wings with ranch dressing make a great snack. And I know that I don’t like my yolks runny. Beyond that, I’m clueless. I have so many questions. What breed is best for egg layers? What breed is best for meat? What is the best method for raising them…free range or a coop? How well do the chicken tractors work? Are there any foods that a chicken shouldn’t eat? How do you take care of them in the winter? I could do some research online and maybe get some answers. But I’d prefer to hear from someone with first-hand experience. Continue reading Chickens, raising your own!
