Who you know Connections
Kid Communities Part 4

Who you know ConnectionsI’ve learned through the years that it’s not so much what you know – it’s who you know. As an adult, I find it difficult to explain this at times to the younger generations. Everything from job seeking to skill building to survival hinges on our ability to serve others and receive help in times of need. But it all begins with a connection. Whether it be family connections or acquaintances or complete strangers who hold a similar value system, a community of like-minded individuals will be able to weather storms and stresses of life and help each other in the process. Kids Communities – Part 2: The PackKid communities are a critical part of growing up and learning to survive. Having a network of friends was and still is a critical part of how you can identify with a group, what you can contribute, and where you fit in.

I moved around a lot as a kid, which was vastly different from most people I knew growing up. This constant change of environments, personalities, and friends brought me to a specific conclusion by the end of high school that has helped me through life by establishing a simple value system, work ethic, and sense of responsibility. Kids Communities!

Kids Communities!
Ryan Buford “The Next Generation” Audio player below!

Kids CommunitiesGrowing up, the kids we ran with set the stage for who we would grow up to be. We had our own Sandlot and Platoon and Mission Impossible teams. But even in our little groups there was a sense of understanding that one of us could do things better than another. We learned through play fighting, street games, races and the like who was the best at pinning down an opponent, outsmarting the person who was “it,” and who could sprint distances without the slightest sense of exhaustion. Come Unity; CommunityIn the future the communities that are prepared for disaster the better off they will be. As populations increase and the cost of recovery increases we could reach a point where resources don’t stretch far enough. The sad truth is that the government will never push us to prepare our communities. Whether this is out of ignorance or based on the fact that they believe they can care for us all is irrelevant.
