Is the end in site for the wildfires in Yosemite? Over 5,000 firefighters at Yosemite National Park are using all the means at their disposal and estimate 33% containment but drought is making progress difficult. The 163rd Wing of the California National Guard at March Air Reserve Base in Riverside is hoping to have access to and operate a Predator drone from Victorville Airport, in Southern California. The purpose, to fly over rugged terrain spotting and giving them early views of any new flare-ups across the remote and rugged landscape. This will be discussed on tonight’s broadcast of “Survival Medicine with Dr. Bones and Nurse Amy“.
Also on this broadcast a talk about issues of longstanding drought conditions across the southwest. Here is a recent quote “Arizona is entering its second decade of a statewide drought from a lack of long-term precipitation and increased demand for water, and state water officials have asked residents, businesses, schools, institutions of higher learning, local governments and federal agencies to increase their water conservation efforts.” Residents and businesses are being given monetary incentives to reduce their water demands by replacing grass with native drought tolerant plants and landscaping.

Dealing with drought can be a real challenge. But it doesn’t have to be. There are many ways to conserve the water that you have and also maximize the effectiveness of it when used in the garden. Dowsing? Personally, I have not much faith in dowsing although I have known several people including a few of my own relatives who will swear by this method of finding many things besides just water.
