Emergency Communications

Emergency Communications
Ray Becker “Renaissance Man” Audio player provided!

Emergency CommunicationsWay back when our prepping community was developing on YouTube, I had identified an important subject; Communications. In a grid down scenario or some other emergency, being able to communicate or at least listen, would be vital for information, Intel and would be a huge psychological boost to the people who have chosen to prepare. Ham radio, what you need to know!

Ham radio, what you need to know!
Host: Denob “The Prepared Canadian

Ham radio DawnMossHam radio can be an indispensable resource during an event. Not only will it allow you to keep in touch with other members of your support group, but if enough preppers would take it seriously, a whole network could be set up from coast to coast to relay valuable information. Even without a license, you can own and listen for information from ham radio operators, emergency services such as police, fire, and others, and listen in on worldwide broadcasts which can keep you up to date on the general situation of things. Best Teacher in Life is Life Itself~

Best Teacher in Life is Life Itself~
Host: Denob “The Prepared Canadian”

teacherThere is no better teacher in life than life itself. What I mean by this is that actual hands on experience is the best way to gain knowledge and skill sets that you may need. Sure, we can read up about something in books, over the internet, and even ask our friends and neighbors, but getting your hands dirty, so to speak, is the best way to practice that which is being preached to us.

TeacherThat being said, I am going to take a much different approach this week. Instead of picking a topic such as water purification, or composting, or alternative energy and rambling on for the better part of an hour, I’m instead going to share some of my experiences with you on a range of subjects that I’ve actually gotten into in recent history.

A big part of my prepping recently has been centered around communications. Continue reading Best Teacher in Life is Life Itself~

An Old Geezer and His Tips on Communications!

Ham Radiobear 1-14 2p4lstorms_300When regular means of receiving information are not available such as television, am/fm radio, telephones, and cell phones where should one go? Most experts would agree that of all forms of radio communications that may be put to use in a post disaster situation the Ham Radio (amateur radio) would be the most valuable in sharing information. We have had a few shows just recently on communications and each one bringing to the plate a great deal of information that is useful to both the novice and expert alike.

Sam Coffman of The Human Path gave us a lot of information just last week on ham radio in the second half of his program. Clear and easily understood he made sense out of the technical aspects answering the how and why questions that most may have. You can read more and listen to that show by clinking HERE. Last night, Dave Womach of The Gun show interviewed the founder and CEO of civil dispatch, an on line version of 911 and more that can send out emergency notifications through ham radio. In an emergency this could be a life saving resource even if you are not a ham radio operator. Read more and listen to this show by clicking Here!

hamradio-2013_ratzer-53Tonight, on this episode of “Preparing For Life’s Storms” Old Geezer Prepper from YouTube helps us understand setting up communications, communications network, the basics and also answer questions for the more advanced radio operator. He has been a prepper since late 1979 and a licensed Ham Radio Operator since 1985. He has also promised to not get so technical that we get lost. Also a visit at the start of the show with the founder of the new e-magazine “Happy To Survive” so join us tonight for more useful information when SHTF 9:00pm/Est 8:00pm/Ct.

Capitalism prevails over government programs, depend on yourself!

broken FlagImagine a world where you can’t trust the government, and you have to be totally self reliant. A world where you can’t even trust dispatch to send someone your way, should you need help. In many ways, we’re already there. In most major cities, you could set of your house alarm and order a pizza at the same time, and the pizza would arrive faster. Clearly this proves that capitalism prevails over government programs, but more importantly, it proves that you can’t depend on someone else.

9-2 237764715_640So who do you call when the grid is down? Civil Dispatch. That’s right, CivilDispatch.com has come up with a new system that allows you to communicate both on and off grid. This system is easy to set up, and acts like a blast email. So now, imagine that you call in your state’s militia because (insert your own reason here), and within minutes you have backup support. With a touch of a button, you can transmit a signal via internet, and ham radio to get your message out.

This Monday, September 2, on The Gun Show, Dave Womach interviews the founder and CEO of civil dispatch to find its strong points, and its weaknesses. Use it for emergency, or to simply broadcast to all your friends that Timmy has a soccer game. Your choice. Tune in at 4PM PST, 7PM EST to find out how this system might save your life.

Rabbits and HAM: Food and Commo for the End of the World!

One of the 8-28Rabbits2simplest ways to prepare for disaster is to buy and stock up on ready-made foods and gear. There is nothing wrong with this unless it is your only strategy or unless you are only interested in being able to survive for a week or two. However, during any kind of disaster that might last weeks, months or indefinitely, it is necessary to have a longer-term plan. This involves sustainable food and sustainable, effective communications.

The most i8-28Rabbits3important thing to remember about long-term prepping is that there is a point where skills actually start to trump gear. Nobody can live indefinitely off of nothing but supplies if there are no skills to allow for sustainable resources. In the case of food, this realistically should include meat. Sustainable meat is very easy to provide in a number of ways, but one of the easiest and most convenient for the prepper is backyard rabbits.

Just like sustaina8-28Commo1ble food, the prepper also should be concerned with sustainable communications. That is, not only radio systems that work and have range, but also are powered by a sustainable, off-grid power source. If you could only choose one type of radio to become involved with as a prepper, learn about and operate, it should probably be HAM or amateur radio.

Join Sam Coffman on The Human Path in today’s broadcast as he explains some tips and tricks for back yard rabbits as a sustainable food source, and also discusses various forms of post-disaster communication to include amateur radio.
