Smart Ammo, Border Disease….
Host: Dr Bones & Nurse Amy “The Survival Medicine Hour”
Holy cow, science fiction is becoming fact more often than not, and here’s more proof. The Pentagon’s Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency has announced the first successful live-fire tests of the military’s first smart, self-guided bullets. In a video released by DARPA Thursday, Extreme Accuracy Tasked Ordinance (EXACTO) .50-caliber bullets maneuvered independently mid-flight to accurately strike targets purposefully offset from where the firing sniper rifle was aimed.
In this episode of the Doom and Bloom(tm) Survival Medicine Hour, Joe and Amy Alton, aka Dr. Bones and Nurse Amy, discuss some diseases that are making it across the border in the recent immigrant crisis, new “Smart” self-guiding technology in small arms, gun shot wound kit essentials, and the ill effects of sleep procrastination. To listen to this show…
A Border Patrol union claims that illegal immigrant minors are coming into the U.S. with “active scabies and other illnesses,” claiming one of its agents already has contracted the mite-borne skin infection and warning it could spread into surrounding communities if precautions are not taken. We talked about scabies just a couple of shows ago, as a matter of fact…. The union’s warning comes amid claims of tuberculosis at one camp in San Antonio and 2 confirmed case of H1N1, or swine flu among the children being dropped off from various countries in central America.
You’ve heard of sleep deprivation but have you heard of sleep procrastination. You may think procrastination only applies to yardwork or school projects—but researchers are now studying a new kind of procrastination. In a study published in the journal Frontiers in Psychology, researchers from the Netherlands have found that “bedtime procrastination” may be keeping many of us from getting sufficient shut-eye. In their paper, scientists define bedtime procrastination as “failing to go to bed at the intended time, while no external circumstances prevent a person from doing so.” Sound like you, maybe?
